Fertility Minute: PCOS – Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is diagnosed by having 2 of the following 3 signs: 1. Abnormal menstrual cycles 2. Signs of hyperandrogenism (this means elevated “male hormone” levels on a blood test (like testosterone) or having excess acne, abnormal hair growth on face or back or male pattern baldness and 3. Polycystic Appearing Ovaries On Ultrasound - on ultrasound, the follicles (tiny circles that contain an egg) are clustered around the outside of the ovary making the ovaries look like there is a “string of pearls” surrounding them.
